How many times a day and how many minutes do you need to brush your teeth

Each preschooler knows for sure how many times a day you need to brush your teeth - twice: in the evening and in the morning. But far from everyone knows about the existence of exceptions to this rule and about the correct technique for conducting a hygienic procedure. This will be discussed in the article.

Teeth cleaning

Why does every person need brushing their teeth and gums

The oral cavity is a kind of gateway for the penetration of various pathogenic microorganisms into the human body. The remnants of food, stuck in the teeth, begin to rot and decompose. As a result, bacteria accumulate in the interdental spaces, leading to the development of various dental diseases. If there is a constant focus of infection in the mouth, it can spread to the internal organs and provoke even more serious pathologies.

Only with a correctly selected brush can you well clean the food crumbs from the interdental spaces and massage the gums. Toothpaste, acquired taking into account age restrictions, will balance the microflora in the oral cavity, disinfect it and provide long fresh breath. No other way to destroy the pathogenic microflora in the mouth is impossible.

How many times a day do you need to brush your teeth

Timely and regular brushing is the main way to prevent tooth decay and various gum pathologies. So that bacteria do not accumulate in the oral cavity, you need to brush your teeth 2 times a day after eating. In the morning, you can brush your teeth before eating to wash away all the bacteria that appeared in your mouth during sleep. After breakfast, in this case, it is permissible to simply rinse your mouth with water or a dental rinse.

Too often brushing your teeth is not necessary, as:

  • the mucous membrane of the oral cavity may dry out;
  • irritation of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity may occur;
  • microflora in the mouth may be disturbed.

When you can’t brush your teeth and why

It is not recommended to brush your teeth immediately after eating foods with high acidity: freshly squeezed juices, lemons. It is better to wait at least half an hour so that the enamel can recover after exposure to acids. It is still impossible to clean the teeth qualitatively at this time, but the risk of microscopic cracks on the enamel will increase, which over time can lead to destruction of the crown of the teeth.

If you drink coffee or tea immediately after morning cleaning, the enamel will acquire a yellowish or grayish tint, which is difficult to remove even with the most effective whitening paste. This is due to the fact that immediately after cleansing, the teeth are most susceptible to the effects of pigments.

How long should brushing take and why

It is impossible to say unequivocally how many minutes you need to brush your teeth so that they remain healthy for a long time. Normally, teeth should be brushed for 2-3 minutes, but the exact term depends on:

  • the number of dental units;
  • general condition of the oral cavity;
  • the presence of orthodontic structures.

Too long to clean the enamel is not recommended, since prolonged mechanical stress is fraught with injury. For the same reason, people who eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables often need restorative mineralization.

Dental brushing: important tips

Dentists give recommendations not only regarding how much time you need to brush your teeth, but also on how they should be cleaned:

  • Before starting the procedure, thoroughly rinse the toothbrush;
  • it is recommended to squeeze about 1 cm of paste onto the brush;
  • the lower jaw is cleaned first, the upper is the second;
  • the angle of the brush during cleaning should be no more than 45 degrees;
  • the chewing surface of the molars must be cleaned with circular, rotational and translational movements;
  • special attention should be paid to cleaning the tongue: it can be cleaned with the back of a regular brush or a special brush for the tongue;
  • Upon completion of the hygiene procedure, gums should be thoroughly massaged with stroking and kneading movements.

How to brush your teeth

After each meal, rinse your mouth to clean the surface of the teeth and interdental spaces. Most often, plain water is used to rinse, but you can take herbal infusions or professional balms for the oral cavity. In addition, flossing is recommended regularly.

In the afternoon it is not necessary to resort to brushing with a paste, since too often you do not need to brush your teeth - this is harmful to enamel. It is enough to rinse your mouth with plain water or a specialized product.

How to brush teeth for children

The early formation of caries on milk teeth can lead to the formation of carious cavities at constant. If you have to remove the baby’s milk teeth, in the future he may develop a malocclusion or a speech impairment. It is necessary to brush milk teeth as many times a day as the molars. There should be no difference.

The procedure should take 2 minutes. If it’s difficult for a child to keep track of time, you can buy an hourglass or set a timer on your mobile phone. In this case, brushing your teeth will turn into an exciting event.

Implant cleaning

Patients with implants should contact the dentistry clinic with a question about how long they need to brush their teeth and which tool is better to use for proper oral care. Compliance with all the recommendations of the dentist will extend the life of prostheses and avoid the development of many dental diseases.

Both children and adults should brush their teeth twice a day, each procedure should last 2-3 minutes. If for any reason a person does not have the opportunity to use a brush and toothpaste, you should at least rinse your mouth with plain water.
