Teeth whitening system Zoom 3: what it is, home whitening, real photos before and after

Teeth whitening Zoom 3 is an innovative tooth enamel color restoration technology. Initially, it was applied by the specialists of the American company Philips, and only then it began to be popular all over the world.

ZOOM teeth whitening procedure

What is Zoom whitening?

Teeth whitening with the Zoom system is an enamel coating with special pastes, which contain calcium, hydrogen peroxide and fluorine, and their activation under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. The teeth have a porous structure, so they change their color when ingested food dyes. Zoom allows you to remove these dyes and return the enamel white.

Thanks to the special gel components and UV lamp settings, the pain during the procedure is minimized compared to previous technologies - Zoom 1 and 2.

The essence of whitening technology

The procedure for enamel clarification using the Zoom method consists of the following steps:

  1. A cream is applied to the teeth, which makes the enamel less sensitive.
  2. They close their lips with a special protective retractor and isolate the oral mucosa.
  3. Wear dark glasses on the eyes to avoid the harmful effects of UV rays on the retina.
  4. The gums are treated with a protective agent that instantly hardens and protects the soft tissues from the effects of the active substances of the gel.
  5. The entire dentition, and not just in the smile zone, is coated with a special gel for photoactivation.
  6. The oral cavity is illuminated with an ultraviolet lamp (with a certain wavelength) that initiates peroxidation.
  7. The temperature of the gel rises, as a result of which its active substances are split into atomic particles.
  8. Detached hydrogen ions penetrate the enamel and destroy the pigment molecules, returning it to white.
  9. The gel is washed off and repeat all of the above steps 2 more times.
  10. After the procedure, tooth enamel is treated with special preparations that prevent its destruction.

Using this technique, you can make your teeth whiter than 10-12 tones in 1.5-2 hours (calculated on the VITA scale).

Whitening gel

A key feature of the new Zoom system is the patented gel storage system. One tube (with hydrogen peroxide) is in an acidic environment, and the second contains an alkalizing composition. When the components are combined, the acid is neutralized, causing less damage to the teeth.

Gel for whitening "Zoom 3" consists of:

  • hydrogen peroxide (not more than 35% - unlike the previous Zoom 1 and 2 methods);
  • amorphous calcium phosphate (to strengthen teeth);
  • carbamide;
  • light activated catalyst.
It is proved that the use of reagents and an ultraviolet lamp from the same manufacturer increases the real effectiveness of the procedure and ensures the full activation of the gel.

Benefits of Zoom Whitening

Technology "Zoom 3" practically does not harm the teeth due to the soft action of the components of the whitening gel. Despite some discomfort, anesthesia is not required during the session. The result of the procedure will be positive, regardless of the reasons that caused the color of the teeth, only the level of shade change on the VITA scale changes. Only one Zoom teeth whitening session is needed to achieve a noticeable effect.

Teeth with coffee plaque and after enamel clarification using the ZUM technology

“Zoom 3” can be used even in the most difficult cases, when other technologies do not give any result. The Zoom whitening system allows you to achieve perfect smoothness of the enamel, so that plaque practically does not accumulate on the dental surface.

Indications for whitening

The main indications for the Zoom procedure:

  • natural or acquired (as a result of smoking, drinking alcohol, coffee) gray and yellow shade of teeth;
  • fluorosis
  • antibacterial therapy with drugs of a number of tetracyclines or fluoroquinols;
  • the use of resorcinol-formalin preparations for filling the dental canals;
  • uneven color of the dentition.

Contraindications to whitening

Implants and large fillings are not considered contraindications for Zoom 3 bleaching, but the active substances do not affect them in any way. Therefore, implanted teeth need to be treated with special solutions for prostheses, and the shades of fillings should be selected in accordance with the primary color of the enamel.

Direct contraindications to the procedure are:

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • children under 18 years old;
  • mental disturbance;
  • intake of tetracycline, phenothiazine and ibuprofen;
  • hypersensitivity to UV rays;
  • epilepsy;
  • the presence of recently delivered seals;
  • oncological neoplasms;
  • taking courses of phototherapy and photochemotherapy;
  • high sensitivity of teeth;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • other respiratory diseases, for example, tuberculosis;
  • allergy to components of chemically active gels;
  • dental diseases - before the bleaching procedure, you need to sanitize the oral cavity;
  • structural diseases of the teeth, for example, cracks or chips;
  • taking hormonal oral contraceptives;
  • increased gag reflex;
  • the presence of a pacemaker;
  • passing the bleaching procedure in the last six months;
  • abnormal features of the development of dentin.

Complications

Teeth whitening Zoom 3 is a medical procedure, after which various complications may well arise. Before the session, it is important to make sure that there are no contraindications, as well as to pass a test for an allergic reaction that can be caused by the active substances that make up the bleaching gel.

Stains on teeth due to uneven application of whitening gel

Spotty staining

In case of accidental contact with soft tissues, Zoom preparations can injure them. If you exceed the time of the procedure, the clarification technology will be violated, and the tooth enamel will acquire a somewhat unnatural matte white hue. If the gel was unevenly distributed during the session, then spotted staining of the teeth will be observed.

Immediately after the procedure, there may be some discomfort and even pain associated with increased sensitivity of the enamel, especially in the root zone. Sometimes there is a burning sensation in the gums.

If there are improperly installed fillings, the gel can get inside the tooth and affect the nerve endings. Usually an unpleasant sensation disappears 2-3 days after the session. If the pain persists, consult a dentistry clinic. Hydrogen peroxide contained in the gel, not only brightens the enamel, it can damage and destroy existing fillings.

Saving effect

It is proved that Professional Zoom whitening keeps teeth white for 5 years after the procedure. But this is only possible with proper care of the oral cavity, otherwise the enamel shade will change after six months.

You can neither smoke, nor drink coffee, nor eat foods that contain natural and artificial colors. It is also necessary:

  • during the first week (and preferably a month) do not eat extremely cold or hot food;
  • daily clean teeth with special pastes, use mouthwash and dental floss;
  • rinse your mouth thoroughly after eating for several minutes;
  • before going to bed, put on a mouth guard with soothing paste;
  • visit a dentist twice a year to prevent caries and periodontal disease;
  • carry out fluorination and remineralization of enamel to maintain its thickness;
  • undergo professional hardware brushing procedures;
  • periodically whiten teeth at home using special drops and gels recommended by the dentist.

Home Teeth Whitening Zoom

At home, you can also whiten your teeth (usually this is done in order to save), but you must start the procedure only after consulting a dentist. It is contraindicated to change the shade of enamel using folk remedies: lemon, hydrogen peroxide. They simply damage the dental tissue, creating the appearance of effect.

Application of ZOOM whitening gel on the trayIf you want to lighten the shade of enamel yourself, you need to use the special Zoom kit for home teeth whitening. As part of the procedure, special mouthguards with an active gel containing whitening and enhancing components are applied to the dental surface.

When whitening teeth at home, additional illumination with a UV lamp is not necessary, and the gel itself contains only 4-6% hydrogen peroxide, as non-professionals will use it.

After this procedure, the color of the enamel changes only by 3-4 shades. The procedure itself lasts longer (up to a day) than in the clinic, since the gel cannot be activated for a long time without exposure to light rays. If necessary, the session has to be repeated 2-3 times during the month. The result obtained at home does not last long.
